Almost all issues can be prevented with correct spacing, correct fastening, and proper moisture management.

  • Edge Swelling / Ridging

Look for and investigate installation issues, including:

    1. Was there excessive exposure to the elements? Some indications are minor surface flaking, weathered appearance and stains around fasteners.
    2. Was felt and finished roofing applied over wet panels? This could be trapping moisture.
    3. Are panels butted tight, therefore not allowing the required 1/8” spacing?
    4. Is the fastener schedule properly followed? Check spacing, corners, edge distance, over-driven and under-driven fasteners, or shiners (all of these will reduce holding power).
    5. Are H-Clips missing along the 8’ edges? Some markets do not require clips but the 1/8” spacing of edges is still required.
    6. Was there improper storage and handling of panels?
    7. Are panels less than 2’ in width at the ridge?

  • Surface Flaking

Look for and investigate installation issues, including:

    1. Was there excessive exposure to the elements? Some indications are minor surface flaking, weathered appearance and stains around fasteners.
    2. Was there improper storage and handling of panels?
    3. Minor surface flaking could be caused by exposure to moisture and is a cosmetic issue and not a structural one. Minor surface flaking is not covered by the warranties.
    4. Severe surface flaking present on one or more panels could indicate other issues so please notify us.

  • Deflection / Buckling

Look for and investigate installation issues, including:

    1. Were panels butted tight, therefore not allowing the required 1/8” spacing?
    2. Are there rafters and/or trusses not aligned, level, square or spaced correctly?
    3. Is the fastener schedule properly followed? Check spacing, corners, edge distance, over-driven and under-driven fasteners, or shiners (all of these will reduce holding power).
    4. Was felt and finished roofing applied over wet panels? This could be trapping moisture.
    5. Are panels installed with the strength axis parallel to the rafters and/or trusses (sometimes occurs on hip roofs)?
    6. Was there excessive exposure to the elements? Some indications are minor surface flaking, weathered appearance and stains around fasteners.
    7. Was there improper storage and handling of panels?
    8. Are panels less than 2’ in width at the ridge? Are any panels not spanning two or more bays?
    9. Are H-Clips missing along the 8’ edges? Some markets do not require clips but the 1/8” spacing of all edges is still required.
